Differences of Baba Nyonya
When we talk about "Baba Nyonya " , old vintage building , colourful vintage buildings with antique objects .During 16th century , the chinese from China migrated to the British Settlements of Melaka , Singapore , Penang and also Java of Indonesia . The chinese form China then married the locals with distinct background , cultures , customs , and eventually became Baba Nyonya in " Peranakan " culture . What does peranakan means ? Peranakan , means " descendant " in Malay .In the other term , "Baba " refers to male . "Nyonya' refers to female .
Baba Nyonya culture can be different in every state , country .
Example , Baba Nyonya culture in Penang is different from Baba Nyonya in Melaka . There's are " Baba Nyonya " people speaks Malay in Melaka , then there will be people who speaks mixture of Hokkien , Malay and English in Penang . Of course . the food will be slightly different too , due to is a different places , geographically different too .
Baba Nyonya architecture in Penang is unique and pretty historical . The Straits Eclectic architecture in Penang, Malacca and other parts of Malaysia is wide range of architectural fro the mixture of western and eastern style and traditions .
In the future , the descendants of the Baba Nyonya not only able to see and visit the historical buildings , the houses , and also they will learn about the cultures aspects and social customs .
What makes people interested the most in Baba Nyonya house , are those antique furniture, their foods , and crafts that been last last for century .
We as Malaysian , hopefully these historical architecture building can be last , so these buildings can be seen in the next generation .
